Field Trip Planning
Attached above is the daily itinerary for the Portland Planetarium and school day. The planetarium field trip was planned by the school to relate to the end of our ‘Universe’ unit and the beginning of our ‘Earth, Moon and Sun’ unit. It was a leadership opportunity that I helped create so that the kids could experience field trips again after the masks and travel restriction were lifted during the COVID pandemic. The student council and student body also helped plan and fund this experience through fundraisers and working with the teachers to pick out the event/location. The event belongs with this standard because it furthers the students learning and was created due to the collaboration between families, teachers, the school, administration and the students.
Linked above is the schedule for a professional development (PD) day that I participated in. These took place during the normal school day and occurred every two weeks. However, not every PD day have sessions, sometimes they required teachers to participate in professional learning communities within the teacher’s designated departments. In these instances teachers, or in my case science teachers, would meet and discuss recent formatives and discuss the continued curricular schedule and modifications that need to occur to better accommodate students. Teachers were also expected to contact the parents of their homeroom students and update them in upcoming events, current participation in school and answer any questions that they might have. In other words teachers took time to plan a students earning, collaborate with families, colleagues, and other school professionals. We were also, at times, provided learning sessions that engaged us with the community and
to advance our professional learning.
