Standard #11 Technology Standards for Teachers –
(NETS-T*):

Effective teachers model and apply the
National Educational Technology Standards for Students
(NETS-S**) as they design, implement, and assess
learning experiences to engage students and improve
learning; enrich professional practice, and provide
positive models for students, colleagues, and the

Artifact 1: 3D Printing Shark Tank

In this project, kids are put into groups and tasked with researching a planet within our solar system and creating a creature that can live on their assigned planet. This project engages kids creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative skills as they work in groups and discuss how their creation can live on an alien planet.

Shark Tank 3- D style

I chose this project as one of my artifacts because I enjoyed creating this project, and I think it covers the ISTE standards pretty well. Through this lesson, students use team-building skills by working with their fellow classmates on designing and creating their creature. The requirement of creating a creature that has attributes that allow it to survive on an alien planet also require the students to use critical thinking and creativity. This process allows kids to open their minds and be creative while they learn about a planet within our solar system. The use of a 3D printer and an online creator engages them with technology in the classroom furthering their knowledge and understanding of planets and organismal life requirements.

Artifact 2: Teacher Interview 2

For this assignment, I interviewed my middle school industrial technology teacher, Robert Zelenski. In this interview, I asked Mr. Zelenski about some logistical concerns to using technology in his classroom, and I asked how he handles some of these issues and what barriers he might encounter when using technology in his classroom.

Interview 2

I think Mr. Zelenski brings up some issues that have already happened and will happen with technology in classrooms. The use and mastery of some classroom technology for a teacher can take time, and that is one thing that many teachers do not have. However, Mr. Zelenski finds a way around these limitations by being creative and actively thinking of solutions. It seems that his ability to negate these issues was similar to the guidelines that ISTE presents. Along with coming up with a solution to an issue he had, he also talks about he adapts his grading styles when need be. He can switch between a more summative approach or a more formative approach depending on which way benefits his students the most.
